Sunday School Teachers: Here are some resources to assist you with your teaching experience. They are not designed for a specific week. Please use them at any time.
DON'T FORGET OUR EXCITING ADULT ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES!
You've been saying: "Some other time." Now is the time to do something for yourself. The Christian Education team places a great deal of emphasis on adult education. Opportunities vary in topic, format, meeting time, and length. Check out the offerings on the Adult Enrichment Opportunities page to find one (or more) that fits your interest, schedule, and station along your spiritual path. Call the Christian Education office at 302-368-8774, ext. 225 or email
deejay4358@yahoo.com for general information and/or to share your ideas for other topics or meeting times.
CALLING ALL HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS -- The 9:30 and 11am Sunday School classes are in need of a pool of individuals who are experienced (and preferrably certified) in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR. These persons are asked to make their presence known in the Christian Education office on Sunday mornings, and to give their expected locations to a CE staff member for the times given, so they can be found, if needed. A list will be kept in the CE office of CPR trained persons for each Sunday. If you are a regular attender, you may register to have your name put on a separate list so you do not need to check in at the CE office each week. Many thanks for your help with this important need.
REMINDER
to Church School Parents: Church School begins at 9:30am. Many
teachers arrive at the classrooms around 9am, but are not yet ready to
supervise children. Please allow teachers to have the time necessary to
prepare the room and gather supplies by making sure that children do not
arrive at the classrooms prior to 9:15am. Thank you!
WITHHOLDING PERMISSION TO PHOTOGRAPH/RECORD - There are many opportunities to include pictures and videos of the activities and events occuring at NUMC on our web site. No names will be attached to these pictures to link image with identity - children/youth will only be identified as a part of a particular group or activity. If you do not wish for your child's image to be included on our web site, please complete the Withholding Permission form and return it to the Christian Education department. If you wish to grant permission for you child(ren)'s image to appear on the church's web site, you do not need to submit this form.
Safe Sanctuaries
Our Church School teachers and staff have received training in Safe Sanctuaries Policies.
United Methodist churches have historically worked to assure that children in the communities were cared for with food, clothing, education, and an affirmation of value and self-worth. Today, these traditions continue and provide a solid foundation from which we can address the need for prevention of all forms of child abuse. The gospel calls us to be engaged in ministry with children and youth. We must not allow the risks to undermine or stop our ministry. Rather, we must:
-
acknowledge the risks and develop a practical plan to reduce them;
-
take steps to prevent harm to our children and our workers;
-
continue to answer the gospel’s imperative to be in ministry with children, making a difference in their lives.
“Safe Sanctuaries" undertakes to make the gospel’s mandate real by providing a safe and wholly secure place in which children may experience the abiding love of God and fellowship in the community of faith. (from: Safe Sanctuaries: Reducing the Risk of Child Abuse in the Church, by Joy Thornburg Melton - pp. 5 – 7)
Please take a moment to review these important policies.
