The Newark United Methodist Church Congregational Care Team The Congregational Care Team at Newark United Methodist Church includes several groups who are willing to help you in your time of trouble or distress. You can get in touch with any of these groups by calling the Church at 302-368-8774. Our Pastor of Congregational Care and Outreach is Dr. James Faltot (jcfaltot@msn.com or 302-368-8774). The Chairperson of the team is Ruth Oatman (roatman2@earthlink.net or 410-398-7491). Eucharistic Ministry - Trained lay people bring communion to those who are homebound. Please contact Pastor Jim Faltot if you would like to have one of these Eucharistic ministers visit you or your loved one. Nursing Home Visitation - Since many of the people visited by the Eucharistic ministers want to have more extended conversations with someone from the church, Rev. George Athill has agreed to make the rounds of the nursing homes to spend some time with our members. Hospital Ministry - In addition to a visit from our pastor of Congregational Care and Outreach, you will be visited by a lay person. Please let the church know as soon as you or your loved one is admitted to a hospital so that you can receive this ministry. Health & Wellness - This team is composed of people who are knowledgeable and experienced in medical matters. If you need help understanding your condition or medical instructions, call the church office and ask to speak to a member of the team. Leave your name and telephone number. Someone will return your call as soon as possible. Stephen Ministry - Lay persons are trained to offer this distinctively Christian one-to-one, confidential ministry to those who are experiencing a crisis of any kind. Contact one of the pastors at the church, or call Kathy Werrell at 302-239-4646 to ask for the help of a Stephen Minister. Tender Loving Christians (TLC) - This ministry primarily focuses on those in our church family and the surrounding community whose needs are mostly physical in nature, such as providing meals during a crisis, arranging transportation to medical appointments, simple home repairs, and yard work. To request the help of TLC, please contact Erika Grabher at 302-737-1568 or Matt Stauffer at 410-996-8716. Funeral Receptions - This team is prepared to spring into action to provide a reception following the funeral for any of our church members. The contact persons are Ruth Oatman at 410-398-7491, or Nancy Bransfield at 302-369-3558. Or you may ask one of the pastors to contact the team. Card Ministry - The people who have volunteered for this ministry send a card of comfort to the bereaved on the first anniversary of the death of their loved one. This ministry may expand in the future to include more opportunities to send cards. If you would like to be a part of this, contact Ruth Oatman at 410-398-7491. |
