Rev. Dr. James C. Faltot PASTOR OF CONGREGATIONAL CARE AND OUTREACH Jim Faltot is not necessarily your average “Associate Pastor.” As his title implies, this position focuses on two main areas. Over the past year congregational care has emerged as a vital church ministry. In the past we had several programs ministering to church members but coordination between them was weak; some people slipped through the cracks. Now by combining these programs (Stephen Ministries, Tender Loving Christians) and adding new ones (Eucharistic ministers, lay hospital and nursing home visitation, etc) we have a dynamic ministry reaching out to the membership of the church. The Pastor of Congregational Care and Outreach serves as the primary staff support person. Newark U.M.C. also reaches out beyond its membership to the local and wider community. The church houses the Newark Pre-school, the Newark Welfare League food closet, an English as Second Language program and an active scouting program. Each and every day people come to our doors looking for assistance. The Pastor of Congregational Care and Outreach administers the Pastors’ Discretionary Fund which is used to help such persons. “Go-bags” provide a quick meal for the hungry. The church is an active member of the Newark Homeless Coalition and is planning to house The Empowerment Center, a pilot program designed to assess the true needs of the homeless in Newark. The church provides volunteers for Hope Dining Room and Habitat for Humanity. We financially support a missionary in Nicaragua, the Africa University and responded with both money and health kits to the Katrina disaster. Once again, the Pastor of Congregational Care and Outreach serves as the primary staff support person. Because of the multiple worship services here at Newark U.M.C., the pastor preaches at anywhere from one to three services every Sunday. Therefore he is active part of the Worship Planning Team. He also participates in special worship events. He is planning to begin a Taize worship service during Lent. Finally, the pastor serves as the staff resource person to the Communications team. Rev. Faltot can be contacted at: jcfaltot@msn.com. |
