NUMC and the Reconciling Ministries Network

The NUMC Reconciling Ministries Exploration team invites you to join us as we learn and share our ideas and concerns regarding NUMC's possible affiliation with the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN). This network is a national grassroots organization that exists to enable full participation of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in the life of the United Methodist Church, both in policy and practice.

Events to learn more:

  • Newark and Skyline UM Churches sponsor screening of "For the Bible Tells Me So" February 29, 2008. For more information, click here.
  • Sunday, March 9, at 12:15pm (Memorial Lounge) We will have a Fishbowl Conversation about the Reconciling Ministries Network. You will have an opportunity to anonymously share your questions and concerns on slips of paper put into our fishbowl; slips will be selected at random to begin our dialogue.
  • Wednesdays from April 2 through May 14, 7:00-8:30pm (Memorial Lounge) Book discussion group for the NUMC community - What Christians Think about Homosexuality. Within the larger Christian community, there are several opinions about what the Bible says on this issue. This book is a balanced overview of 6 different, thoughtful Christian responses to God's Word. We hope you will join us as we learn more about this diversity, and where we find ourselves in the range of opinions within it. The book is available at Amazon.com for $24.95.

We value your comments and concerns as we prayerfully walk down this path. We hope to see you, and to learn from one another. If you would like more information, contact an RMN team member. Co-chairs for the Newark UMC team are Paul Stazesky (pstazesky@comcast.net) and Cyndi Brooks (cynbrooks@comcast.net).
